- Blood glucose — steroid hyperglycemia is near-universal at real doses
- Infection signs WITHOUT relying on fever
- Give with food; watch for GI bleed with concurrent NSAIDs
- Long-term users must never stop abruptly — adrenal crisis
🎓 Patient teaching
Take with food, in the morning (mimics cortisol rhythm, helps sleep). Never stop suddenly after long-term use — taper only. Report black stools. Expect appetite and mood changes.
