You'll see
metoprololatenololcarvedilolpropranolol
Used for
HypertensionHeart failurePost-MIAtrial fibrillation rate control
Side effects
BradycardiaHypotensionFatigue; can mask hypoglycemia signs
Monitor
  • Apical pulse + BP before dose — know your hold parameters (often HR < 60, SBP < 100)
  • Blood glucose awareness in diabetics — tachycardia warning sign is blunted
  • Caution in asthma/COPD (non-selective agents can bronchospasm)
🎓 Patient teaching

Never stop abruptly — rebound tachycardia and angina. Rise slowly. Diabetics: check sugars; your usual low-sugar warning signs are muted.
